It's very likely we see a GMessenger, and I wouldn't find it strange...

just wondering, will google release a instant messenger in the future?
since it is releasing gmail, might as well release more stuffs.
it's becoming more and more like yahoo and msn.
i think in the future, they should have their own instant messenger. that's a good idea. since they always have innovative ideas and do a good job on whatever project (such as gmail)
i used to use icq, but now it's becoming so crappy and cpu blogger.
wish google can write a good IM program...
hahahhaha![]()

i dont think an IM client from google would be anything special. im fine now with AIM, YIM, and MSN. i think they get the job done... unless google can think of something extremely important they left out (which would be added by said companies after they found out about it).
maybe it can be like trillian
i like trillian as much as the next guy but i still find myself going back to the original IM clients because some of the features haven't been added by the coders. if they could somehow strike a deal and keep it up to date with all the newest features i might try it.
i can already see googles messenger(if they ever have one) advanced logging with googles search, google scanning ur messages and placing ads in the chat(jk)
I don't think too many people would switch to a google messanger unless it provided something really special since everyone already has their contact lists set up and it's just a pain to sitch IMs and add everyone again.
Very true, stevewise. If you just want to use your gmail account in MSN Messenger, all you need is a .NET passport and you can use any email address (a real one) in MSN Messenger. Trillian is also a good one but I'm not that fond of it.it's just a pain to sitch IMs and add everyone again.

That would be pretty cool if google came with a IMing system. I'm fine with AIM and Yahoo! right now, but if Google can find a way to upload the buddy lists from AIM or other to Google IM, I'll switch!
And then they'd come up with Google Spyware Destroyer, then Google Browser, then the Google Software Suite including MS Office-like applications, then Google OS, then Google Computer, then it'll be Google Computer portable, where it's drilled into our skull and projects websites through our optic nerve directly to the brain.
Then they'll destroy the planet.
"Then they'll destroy the planet"
Nice idea, that way we'll make a new and better one![]()
We'll make it out of PURE BINARY
(PS, this post timer limit thing's starting to get on my nerves, as usually I don't spend like what, 30 seconds typing out my posts.)
If google makes a GMessenger as you call it... They should add Tabbed IM, Logs, and all the other stuff like DEAD AIM has except it comes with it... That would be great... I would probably try out GMessenger and if it has alot of great features and if you're able to use Yahoo!, AIM, and MSN Messenger all in one like Trillian it would be a big success...

excellent idea. if google made a messenger that was better than aim or msn, that would be a huge blow on microsoft. although this is a big leap for google, i really hope they consider it. right now i still use hotmail for msn simply because all my other friends use msn messenger. i do not want a net passport for my gmail because i am worried that it may result in hotmail's problem of spam spam spam. i do not use trillian because it does not categorize things well. i can't separate my friends into different sections like church, sports, and school or something like that.
I heard that you can IM people with yahoo and aim and icq all from google messenger. Now if they did that then I would get that.Originally Posted by stevewise
I don't think that a Gmail Instant Messenger is such a good idea. There are already so many instant messengers, it's complicated enough. I use Gaim (http://gaim.sourceforge.net/). It is one instant messenger that combines a lot of the most popular ones in one. If Google could do something like that, full featured, then perhaps it would be more practicle.

And there are also a lot of email services, and new ones appearing each day.
The key is compatibility, just this simple word. If all those messengers were compatible, what would you think then?
If all instant messengers were compatible, then perhaps a gmail instant messenger wouldn't be such a bad idea. I still think that there would be too many. MSN is popular, ICQ still is, AIM, Yahoo, and there are other smaller ones. I just don't think the world needs another instant messenger, unless there were some special feature(s) that made it extra special.
