" Gmail has no items" in Google Reader

I have subscibed to my Gmail Inbox by adding the RSS feed ( http://mail.google.com/mail/feed/atom ) to my subscriptions. Despite the RSS Feed showing up among the Subscriptions I only get " "Gmail" has no items". What´s wrong?

1 Launch your RSS feed reader.
    2 Create a new channel.
3 Type "https://gmail.google.com/gmail/feed/atom" for the URL of the new feed.
4 Enter your Gmail user name ("sammy.sample") when prompted for a user name.
5 Use your Gmail password as the feed's password, too.

    more learning here.

Thank you Ugly_Cat. I believe I did this according to your intructions. I then choose Subscribe to this Feed using Google. Here my Inbox items show up, but when I hit the Subscribe button, I am taken to the Add to Google page and choose Add to Google Reader. Proceeding to Google Reader, the Feed shows up as "title unknown" with this address https://mail.google.com/mail/feed/atom. Should work,no?

Sorry. The feed shows up in Google Reader as http://gmail.google.com/gmail/feed/atom and not https://gmail.google.com/gmail/feed/atom.

I assume when you say "create a new channel" that goes for the same as "add subscription" in Google Reader. Sorry for being such a "Noogle"!

I seem to be having a one-sided conversation here . When adding https://mail.google.com/mail/feed/atom to subscriptions in Google Reader all I get are a whole pile of feeds I can choose to subscribe to, but nothing that pertains to Gmail .
Neither am I being prompted for my E-mail address or password.

Thanx, Ugly_Cat .I seem to be hard to satisfy . Unfortunately the Gmail+Google Reader script does not display correctly on my Mac.

When I add the feed to Google Reader I am not asked for either username or password. Therein seems to be the problem. Typing "https://gmail.google.com/gmail/feed/atom" only dispalys subscription suggestions that have nothing to do with my Gmail Inbox. . Again, thanks for trying to help me,though.

I can´t seem to find anyone with the same problem. Makes me wonder if Gmail integration into Google Reader is at all possible. Thanks for the links though. installed the Google Reader Notifier, which looks promising ( though my Gmail feed does not show up here either ). Elmer Fudd

I found a satisfactory solution thanks to you. Added the script for Gmail+Google Reader, and solved the problem of it not displaying correctly by adding the CustomizeGoogle script . I then checked "secure" for both Gmail and Google Reader. Google Reader then displayed correctly in Gmail. Appreciated your help. One day when I learn this stuff, maybe I can reciprocate. Elmer F.
