Makes sense to me. Google is primarily for search and FB is about connections and sharing information. I've been in Texas since 1988 and using FB I have reconnected with people I went to high school with in both Alaska and New Hampshire. I'm on FB far more than Google.

I know I have made this point beofre, but I only see FB as a personal portal to connect with my friends, not to be hit by marketing marterials

While some say Google stores private data as well and cares little about privacy (I am not sure if I am believing that) , I don't trust Facebook. A company trying to commercialise people's private lives is not a company I am willing to support. Hence, no Facebook for me.

That said, out of curiosity I have had Facebook and MySpace accounts (no Twitter). I guess curiosity killed the cat and I signed up. Used both for a while and decided to turn my back on it after a short while. It is just not my cup of tea. To those who do like this type of sites I also don't get why Facebook is so much more popular than MySpace. At least MySpace allows HTML and highly personalising your profile, while Facebook's interface is hardly changeable at all. But well, I am not defending MySpace because they're just the better of two evils IMO.

I think Facebook is a waste of potential. A site with a personal profile and discussion forums on different subjects under one umbrella is great, but then it got commercialised and filled with silly games, applications that have little or no added value, and people started to use it more and more for chit chat instead of interesting in-depth conversations. Nothing wrong with that, just not my cup of tea.

What made me decide to withdraw from Facebook is:
    a) if someone publishes a photo of you without asking first and tags it, it shows up on your profile and you cannot even remove it even if you wanted to
    b) even with the highest privacy level, you're still partially visable to friends of friends. To really stay hidden on Facebook except to those people you choose, is very difficult. It is great to most to find back people you used to know and get back in touch. Some of us, including myself, however prefer NOT to be found. The past is the past and my past has not been a pleasant one (I am clinical depressive and thus have had a bad youth in which I fell victim of harsh bullying - I rather leave the past as it is and feel no desire to get back in touch with ex classmates or people I used to know while growing up) ; Facebook may be great for those who like to get back in touch with ex friends and classmates etc, but for those of us who prefer not to be found, it is highly inefficient.

The people, both from my teenage years AND from now, which I do value as good friends and wish to stay in touch with, know my email address. it works just as efficient to stay in touch. Skype is a great addition too. I don't feel Facebook offers any added value compared to simple good old email

Now as a writer some people say I should use Facebook to promote my work and build a fanbase. Well, I have my own website and that's more than good enough. Why would art be depending on Facebook to get noticed?! I'm not gonna play that game. Email does all the things I need to stay in touch with my family and true friends, no FB or similar sites for me.

But still for me Google worth more than that time wasting facebook. Google visitors are more professional and business oriented people where as facebook is mostly visited by student type immature people.

And we wonder why Google continues to hate Facebook. Facebook is not only the top dog for social sites but offering ability of search to their billions of users is taking a piece of Google search market share away! Can't see facebook pages ever ranking on google! But if the two get past their differences i can see a merge of the two top dogs turning into a trillion dollar enterprise. But that's my thought.

It's true that social networking sites like facebook plays a vital role in drawing traffic to your website. Live example is my blog (seo-smo.net) which gains most traffic from facebook.

As far as connecting with friends, I'd be interested getting your point of view on google+ social. Do you think any company can get even close to FB? Even with Google power?

Well, Google is number one top site in Alexa while Facebook is currently in second. As of today, almost 50 percent of global users visit Google.

Will we someday be seeing Facebook becoming a full-fledged online search engine and Google becoming a social network??

Facebook is the best social networking site, google is the best search engine .I think they both manage different areas.I think the traffic to google or to facebook is decide by the people's intention.if a day more people would like to connet with friends and chat,I think facebook will increase the traffic a lot. otherwise. if people search more in a day than connection.I think google will get more traffic..But now, google develop the google + service, I think it is a obvious trend to challenge the facebook on connection area.

Very interesting. I wonder if it's still true that Stumbleupon sends more referral traffic than Facebook, because that would then mean it was #1?

No wonder why FB is now at high on the charts. It is a new way of connecting people and if google or someone comes up with a new thought.. it would be a sure hit. Google is really good as search engine but not a social network. Also..FB is like an addiction but google is god .
