Thread: How are the number of views counted for a Google Map?

Why did my unlisted Google map have over 3,000 views before it was public when the creators are certain that they did not view the map 3,000 times? What constitutes a 'view' and how are they counted? How is this different for a listed versus unlisted map?

Does Google have a map crawler that contributes to the view count?
