I'm super excited over Froyo. So excited that I am seriously considering getting an Android device instead of my iPhone. Google is playing the 'openness' card against Apple, and I really think they are doing the right thing. While I do love Apple's polish, I'm sick and tired of Apple's obsession with controlling every detail. Tethering is definitely something that should have been a part of every smartphone today. One thing is for sure -- Android is here to stay. I'm excited to hear Apple's response to this.

I highly doubt apple are going to release anything other that OS4 soon. They just do not have the time to get that 'One More Thing' ready in time for the iPhone release.

And like you i am really considering getting an android device just for froyo!

I have the Eris and am running 2.1. I would not mind purchasing a device running Froyo once it's been out for awhile and the bugs are squashed and more apps are designed for it.

I really like the ability to push tasks from the computer to your phone.

One that I would like to see is a shopping list. Managed through my Google Account, I would create my shopping lists (grocery, clothes, w/e) and have it either sync to my phone regularly or with a push of a button have it sent to my phone as I walk out the door.

The ability to push stuff from your computer to your phone will be a big deal over the next two years.

Why not just use a 3rd party App like RememberTheMilk or any other todolist? There are plenty of them and I'm sure at least a few offer some kind of sync (or alternatively just pull down the list to your app when launching the app).

You never know with Apple though. WDC is around the corner and it is pretty clear by now that a new iPhone will be launched. What it will entail as far as features goes, I have no idea. Yet, it's Apple -- I'd be surprised if they don't announce anything big.

The reason I brought it up here is because one of the big features of Froyo (the subject of this thread) is the ability to push info from your computer/browser to your phone.

I've tried shopping list apps on my phone before (haven't tried RememberTheMilk yet) but found typing long lists on the phone tedious. Plus I may think of ideas while at my computer and it would be much easier to type it out and push it to my phone than run and grab my phone, open the app and use the keyboard on it.

Right, but you can still do that. I'm not using RememberTheMilk myself (I use Things). But with RTM you can add the entries using the web interface from your computer (they probably have a desktop app too). That will then automagically appear on your Android device using this new thing called the Internets =).

A quick google query lead me to this blog-post over at RTM.

Okay, I totally didn't understand how big RTM was. I thought it was just an smartphone app. I had no clue it was something that could be added to Google, Twitter, Gmail, etc.

From all your talk of Remember the milk.. i think i shall start using it again. I used to use it but found that it didnt always work. Maybe its fixed now.

I really hope Froyo comes soon. Would like to buy one and compare it to the iphone.

Has this been made available for the HTC Desire yet? I know some hacker made a port of a different HTC model's Froyo but its still a bit dodgy - would much rather have the official OS.

You'll be happy with Android 2.2 Froyo. There aren't major changes between 2.2 Froyo and 2.3 Gingerbread. There are core operating system changes that don't affect your every day usage all that much. With Gingerbread 2.3, there is a noticeable change in battery life on your device, but that's about it.

The more important thing to keep in mind is which phone you're buying. There are Android 2.2 devices that will blow away a device running Android 2.3.
