why do I go to google.uk

Lately when I've put google in the browser bar I end up at

    google.co.uk/

    instead of at

    google.com

Anyway to stop that from happening?

Thank you. I am in the USA. This started happening last week and has continued off and on since.

Anyone have a clue why this is happening?

When you're on the uk site, click the Go to Google.com link.

How does it happen that I use the proxy? I did nothing different. I've flushed my cache. I even took the extra step of opening up two mostly unused browsers and typing in google and in those browser I still came up in the UK.

I first noticed it only because my preferences had disappeared.

No one else is having this rather weird behavior?

Have you, perhaps, been to the UK site, and picked up cookies, there? Have you cleared cookies, and history, as well as your cache?

Yes to all of the above. As I explained I even opened up new browsers and I achieved the same results (type in google and was taken immediately to google.co.uk) and I hadn't had those browsers opened in months.

I figured then it had to have something to do with the dns. I just wondered if anyone else was having this problem.

    Hey hellothere...

Hey hellothere ( ), I live in India and I have the same problem. Whenever I type in http://www.google.com, http://www.google.co.in (the Indian version of Google) turns up. Does anyone have a/the solution to this problematic problem?

Okay, I guess nobody saw my post so I'll post a nice image instead.

On your pages you should see this:

    Click the go to google.com

    There ya go.

And if you watched Call For Help a while back they had a caller call in about this issue and it's a cookie issue and using the Go to google.com link will change the cookie.

Thanks for taking the time to reply but I saw your post the first time. I wasn't ignoring you. I knew how to get to google.com from google.co.uk already. Although I think your little graphic is very nice I had also gone to another computer in my house and I got sent the same place. I had at first tried going to google.com and then in another window going back to google and I still ended back at google.co.uk . So it didn't clear anything.

Furthermore I also opened two other browsers on my computer (different cookies no?) and they also immediately took me to google.co.uk . So it is absolutely not a cookie issue.

I was curious about what caused this strange behavior to begin with since it comes and goes. Hence my posts here. Why is google sending some of us to the UK? Busy servers?

I just thought someone would know off the top of their head or maybe thru answered prayer to the great google gods.

I can deal with it... it is just annoying.

Yes, the odd part is the behaviour in multiple browsers, and the fact that it doesn't always happen. The two, together, rule out most things I can think of. I have a feeling that you're right about being redirected when the server is busy. I don't suppose that you've noticed if this happens at any particular time of day?

If it did bother you, you could try an experiment with adding the UK site to a hosts file, to try to 'force' the browser to go to the 'com' site.
But it hardly seems worth the effort, if it's not a major annoyance.

Lupine1647, your first post on this topic was quite visible, thank you, but the fact is that, well, I think hellothere made it quite clear. But one thing I'd like to say is that - the problem finally gave way (for me)! When I type in http://www.google.com, that's what appears now! Looks like posting on Google Community really helped!
